. Minister for Foreign Affairs Shishir Khanal has said time has come to rise above political gains. He said this while speaking at a consultation collection programme for formulation of policy, programme and budget for the fiscal year 2083/84 organised by Tokha municipality here today.
He said that the local government should focus on long-term planning rather than short-term politics.

“Now is the time to rise above political gains and work,” he said.
“The people’s representatives at the local level have the opportunity to work in a way that the generation of 20-25 years from now will remember, so focus on long-term plans rather than short-term politics,” he said.
Minister Khanal, who is also a lawmaker from Kathmandu constituency-6, said that attention should be paid to build a well-managed city, saying the southern part of Tokha is full of dense settlements and open land is still left in the northern part.
He stressed the need of promoting tourism by systematizing the historic Newari settlement and the market to be held on Saturdays in Tokha. He said homestay could be developed in Tokha.
Minister Khanal said that many settlements of Tokha would be facing problems due to the expansion of the Tokha Chhahare tunnel way and an alternative should be sought for it.
According to him, the construction of roads of international standard could be done at minimum cost and with less damage if the Sangla Khola Corridor and Bishnumati Khola Corridor were developed as alternative routes of the highway. He said that a digital system should be implemented so that the work of paying tax as well as obtaining general recommendations can be done from home in order to make the municipality more technology-friendly.
Lawmaker of Bagmati Province and former minister Hari Prabha Khadgi Shrestha said that the people have high expectations from the local government.
Lawmaker Shrestha said no one should indulge in politics in development works.
