More than one lakh foreign tourists arrive in May

Kathmandu. In the month of May 2026, more than 100,000 foreign tourists have visited Nepal. According to Nepal Tourism Board, 102,626 foreign tourists visited Nepal in May. That number is 19 percent more than last year.

According to the NTB, 86,216 tourists visited Nepal in May last year. A total of 78,329 foreigners had visited Nepal in May 2019 before the coronavirus pandemic.

The highest number of tourists visiting Nepal in May is from neighbouring India. A total of 40,782 Indian tourists visited Nepal during the month. Likewise, 11,514 tourists from China came second, 9,001 from the USA, 5,298 from Bangladesh and 3,375 from the United Kingdom of Nepal in the fifth position.

Region-wise, foreigners from SAARC (47.2 per cent), other Asian countries (19.9 per cent), Europe (13.1 per cent), America (10.3 per cent), Australia and New Zealand (3.1 per cent), Middle East (1.5 per cent) and other countries (4.5 per cent) have visited Nepal.

Nepal’s tourism has been affected due to the conflict in the West Asian countries. However, the number is expected to increase further in the coming days due to the growing trust in Nepal in the international market and tourism activities.
