Nepalgunj’s trade rises due to tightening of customs, revenue collection increases, more than Rs 16 billion collected in 10 months

Kathmandu. The Nepalgunj Customs Office has increased its monthly revenue collection after the imposition of customs duty on goods entering Nepal from India. 

Janardan Poudel, chief customs officer at the Nepalgunj Customs Office, said that the customs revenue has increased significantly in comparison to the previous months after the implementation of the compulsory customs policy on goods worth more than one hundred rupees.

According to him, there has been a significant increase in revenue collection in the months of March and April after the strict enforcement of in the customs.In the month of March, Rs 1. Rs 930 million, 38 lakh 19 thousand was collected, while in the month of April, Rs 2 Rs 14 crore, 25 lakh 54 thousand and in the month of Baisakh, Rs 1.84 billion, 28 lakh 21 thousand was collected. 

He said that the tightening of the border is aimed at changing the trend of going across the border to the Indian market for every item for shopping} and the trade and business of Nepalgunj is flourishing.

Nepalgunj Customs Office has collected 68 per cent more revenue than the target in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year.The annual target for the current fiscal year 2082/83 has been fixed at Rs. 24.54 billion, but Rs. 16.73billion has been recovered in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year. 

Chiranjivi Oli, senior vice-president of Nepalgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI), said thatmany consumers have left the local market to go across the after the tightening of the border.
